Be a strict dieter, not a restricted one!

"Losing weight is one of the top resolutions made every year, yet only 20 percent of people achieve successful weight-loss and maintenance," Jessica Bartfield, MD.

Obesity has become an epidemic, but at the same time the nutrition world has exploded and become a multibillion dollar industry. But if this business is so booming, why has obesity become such a huge issue? And why are so many dieters failing?

The problem comes with all these so called "experts" with their fad diets and magical weight loss solutions that are always so restrictive that only a handful of people are actually able to stick to them.

Every diet demands some kind of discipline, hell, even as flexible dieters we know how hard dieting is, we eat all the stuff we like, but not in the amounts we like, and not to mention the fact that being on a deficit f***ing sucks! . But at least we get to eat the foods we love. Because being in a deficit while eating foods you don't like and avoiding the ones you do is one of the worst things in the world.

Not only are these diets extremely restrictive, but they also tend to be super low calorie to give people fast results. Just yesterday someone was telling me how amazing her coach was because she lost 12lbs in 2 weeks. In my opinion, I thought it was sad that she would think that her coach was amazing when that "expert" has her on a starvation diet. This is the reason why weight loss has such an unsuccessful rate, extreme caloric restriction plus food restrictions almost always ends in disaster.

"Dieting is a skill, much like riding a bicycle, and requires practice and good instruction" - Dr Bartfield

So don't look for fast results, and don't try to make extreme life changes over night. Reasonably restrict your caloric intake but don't restrict your food choices. Honoring personal preference can make all the difference in the world to your diet and fat loss goals.

Be a strict dieter, not a restricted one!
